President Li Yuanyuan Attends 2017 Chengdu Global Innovation and Entrepreneurship Fair and Delivers a Keynote Speech at Elite Universities & the Presidents’ Forum
The 2017 Chengdu Global Innovation and Entrepreneurship Fair was held in Chengdu from May 10th to 12th. Senior officials from relevant government ministries, business leaders from home and abroad, representatives from hotspot entrepreneurship cities in the world, from world renowned innovation and entrepreneurship-focused universities and research institutes, from famous investment institutions and from top-level incubators all gathered in Chengdu to discuss global innovation and entrepreneurship trends, demonstrate innovation and entrepreneurship achievements, promote innovation and entrepreneurship resources sharing and advance the flow of innovation and entrepreneurship factors and trading of the results. Li Yuanyuan, President of Jilin University, was invited to attend the event, and delivered a keynote speech at the 2017 Chengdu Global Innovation and Entrepreneurship Summit of Elite Universities & the Presidents’ Forum. Directors from Office of Global Engagement and Guidance and Service Center of Student Employment and Entrepreneurship of Jilin University were also present at the event.
Themed as “a Shared Future through Innovation”, 2017 Chengdu Global Innovation and Entrepreneurship Summit of Elite Universities & the Presidents’ Forum is an important part of the 2017 Chengdu Global Innovation and Entrepreneurship Fair. Experts and scholars from home and abroad, including Aaron Ciechanover, Laureate of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry (2004) and academician of Israel Academy of Sciences and humanities, John Hawkins, father of the World Creative Industry, Mark Pagano, Chancellor of University of Washington Tacoma, Li Yuanyuan, President of Jilin University and Gao Wenbing, Chairperson of University Council of Central South University delivered keynotes speeches and engaged in roundtable discussions on topics like “Internet + University Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education” and “Building University Curriculum System of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education”. They also shared their views and experience in innovative talents training, conducted in-depth exchanges and offered valuable advice and suggestions for the development of China’s innovation and entrepreneurship education. More than 300 people, including practitioners of the innovation and entrepreneurship education from many Chinese universities and representatives of universities based in Chengdu participated in the discussions.
With “Strengthening Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Platform to Serve the Transitioning and Upgrading of the Economy and Society” as the theme of his speech, President Li Yuanyuan talked about the innovative system training five kinds of talents who are “academic-oriented, engineering application-oriented, management-oriented, internationally-oriented and innovation-oriented” by fostering enabling university culture featuring “subject integration, innovation and openness” and discussed universities’ innovation and entrepreneurship practices and their talent training programs in the globalization era and the close relation between economic and social development and strategies and measures for such development. He also pointed out that the social functions and obligations of universities demand universities to develop innovation and entrepreneurship education, promote the training of innovative talents and entrepreneurs and better play the role of universities’ technology innovation in guiding, supporting and mobilizing economic and social development. Scholars from home and abroad spoke highly of the China “Internet +” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition for University Students organized by Jilin University, and widely recognized the ideas of Jilin University’s innovation and entrepreneurship education.
During the event, President Li Yuanyuan was invited to meet with Yin Li, Governor of Sichuan Province, Fan Ruiping, Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee of Chengdu, Luo Qiang, Mayor of Chengdu and Tian Rong, Vice Mayor of Chengdu. They exchanged opinions on topics like innovation and entrepreneurship education, urban development and technological achievements transformation.
