Jilin University-University of Kentucky Academic Exchange Day Successfully Held at JLU
The Jilin University - University of Kentucky Academic Exchange Day was successfully held in Jilin University on September 4-5. A nine-member delegation paid a visit to Jilin University to attend the activities. The delegation was led by David W. Blackwell, provost and Chief Academic Officer of University of Kentucky, and Sue Roberts, deputy provost of International Affairs of University of Kentucky and accompanied by responsible persons of affiliated colleges of University of Kentucky, such as the School of Engineering, the School of Fine Arts, Gatton College of Business & Economics, the School of Arts and Sciences and the Confucius Institute. Yang Zhenbin, Secretary of CPC JLU Committee, addressed at the opening ceremony, which was hosted by Wu Zhenwu, Vice President of Jilin University. Responsible persons of 12 teaching and research organizations, such as the Office of Student Affairs, the Office of Academic Affairs and the Office of Global Engagement, as well as more than 100 teachers and students participated in various academic exchanges during the day.
In his speech, Yang Zhenbin extended a warm welcome to the arrival of new and old friends from University of Kentucky. He said that it had been seven years since Jilin University and University of Kentucky signed an inter-university exchange agreement in April 2011. Both sides laid a solid foundation for cooperation in personnel training, teacher-student exchanges and scientific research cooperation. University of Kentucky has become one of the closest America-based strategic partners of Jilin University. He expected that the exchange day would provide an opportunity for both schools to further explore practical cooperation, establish a mechanism for closer cooperation and seek common development.
Provost Blackwell expressed his congratulation on the recent academic achievements and fruitful results of Jilin University. He acclaimed Jilin University as one of the most important strategic partners of University of Kentucky in China. In recent years, the cooperation between both universities has been fruitful. Especially since 2015, four continuous sessions of Education Week of UKY have been held in Jilin University, which became a model of the global cooperation programs carried out by University of Kentucky. University of Kentucky expected to deepen future cooperation with Jilin University in various fields, make pioneering research and jointly respond to the opportunities and challenges in front of mankind.
On September 5, the UKY delegation had respective walk talks and disciplinary interfaces with various affiliated organizations of Jilin University, such as the Office of Global Engagement, Office of Student Affairs, Office of Academic Affairs, School of Philosophy and Sociology, College of Arts, School of Economics, School of Public Administration, School of Business, Collage of Life Sciences, School of Mechanical, Aeronautic and Astronautic Engineering, College of Automotive Engineering, College of Materials Science and Engineering, College of Biological and Agricultural Engineering, College of Construction Engineering and School of Public Health. Both sides conducted in-depth exchanges on dual-degree programs, teacher-student exchange, scientific research cooperation, academic workshops, student internships and other projects, in hope of increasing the diversity of programs, expanding the cooperation scale on the basis of original cooperation in relevant disciplines between both universities.
During the exchange day, Sue Roberts, vice provost of University of Kentucky, and Xiu Huajing, Foreign Dean of Confucius Institute of University of Kentucky and Executive Director of China Program Office, held talks with and solicited feedback and opinions from representatives of teachers and students of Jilin University who had participated in the Education Week of UKY. Nancy Johnson, Associate Dean for International Affairs of Gatton College of Business & Economics of University of Kentucky, and Mark Liu, founding director of the MS Finance program at UKY, also gave lectures to the faculty and students of the School of Business, introduced the dual-degree business program between JLU and UKY, and held in-depth interaction and communication with the teachers and students of Jilin University.
Located in Lexington, Kentucky and Founded in 1865, the University of Kentucky is a famous public research university in the United States and also the largest university in Kentucky. The University of Kentucky has 19 colleges with about 200 majors, among which the postgraduate educations in the College of Pharmacy, the School of Health Care, the School of Law and James W. Martin School of Public Policy and Administration rank top throughout the United States. In April 2011, Jilin University and University of Kentucky signed the agreement on the inter-university exchange. The School of Public Health, the Business School and the college of Construction Engineering of Jilin University have respectively signed agreements on dual-degree programs with relevant colleges of University of Kentucky. More than ten colleges of both universities have made close contacts including mutual visits of teachers and students and academic cooperation.
