Delegation led by Secretary-General Lee Jong-heon of Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat Visits Jilin University
On March 21, Secretary-General Lee Jong-heon (accredited by the Republic of Korea) and Deputy Secretary-General Han Mei (accredited by China) of the Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS) led a delegation of five people to visit Jilin University. Zhang Xi, president of Jilin University, met with the delegation. In the meeting, Jilin University and the Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat signed a memorandum of understanding. Attending the meeting were Vice President Zhen Weitao and personnel in charge of the Office of Global Engagement, Career Services Center for Students, College of Humanities, College of Foreign Languages, Economics School, College of Public Administration, College of Northeastern Asian Studies and School of International and Public Affairs.
After the meeting, the delegation visited the university’s history museum and the Dingxin Library.
In the afternoon, Lee Jong-heon delivered a lecture in the International Academic Lecture Hall in the central campus entitled “Trilateral Cooperation and the TCS (Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat)”. In the lecture he spoke about historical relations and the geopolitical situation in Northeast Asia, elaborated on the cooperation philosophy and mechanism involving China, Japan and South Korea, and talked about the work of the TCS and its youth programs in particular. The lecture was well-received by the nearly 100 Jilin University faculty members and students in attendance.
The Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat is an inter-governmental organization whose mandate is to boost peace, stability and prosperity in Northeast Asia. Founded in Seoul in September, 2011, the Secretariat is committed to becoming the hub for the three countries where they can integrate and consolidate cooperation in a multitude of areas and at all levels.
