College of Materials Science and Engineering

Introduction

College of Materials Science and Engineering (CMSE) of Jilin University is composed of three former colleges: the College of Materials Science of the former Jilin University, the College of Materials Science and Engineering of the former Jilin University of Technology, and the College of Materials Science and Engineering of the former Changchun University of Science and Technology. CMSE consists of five departments including Material Science, Metallic Materials Engineering, Polymer Materials & Engineering, Inorganic Nonmetallic Materials Engineering, and Materials Processing Engineering. The education we provide and our scientific research abilities are some of the most highly rated in in China. CMSE’s ESI has ranked in the top 0.1% since 2014.

 

CMSE’s faculty includes 71 full professors (51 doctoral supervisors among them), 53 associate professors. Till now, more than 6,000 undergraduates, 1,400 master degree students, and 500 Ph.D. candidates have earned their degree from the CMSE. In recent years, the CMSE has held more than 200 academic forums, and our faculty and students have attended more than 100 international conferences. CMSE has sent more than 50 people to the United States, Germany, Britain, France, and other countries to study, give lectures, and to attend advanced study programs and academic conferences.

 

The research capacity of CMSE is very strong. In recent years, the CMSE has completed more than 400 national science projects including 21 projects of the National Key Basic Research Development Program, National High Technology Research and Development Program of China projects, National Natural Science Fund key projects, and EU Framework Agreement projects. Funds provided by the CMSE’s national awards and patents exceed 300 million RMB. The CMSE has published more than 1,800 SCI-indexed papers with more than 16,000 citations, 10 international academic monographs, nine national academic monographs, and other teaching materials.

    Main testing and analysis facilities include mechanics performance testing equipment such asan MTS-810 Electro Hydraulic Servo System (USA) (10 tons), 1600-5122VD Micromet5104 (Buehler), a Microhardness Meter - Image Analyzer (USA), etc.

(2) Research Platforms and Hubs

The main research platforms and research hubs of CMSE at Jilin University include the Key Laboratory of Automotive Materials of the Ministry of Education, the Engineering Research Center for Metallic Materials and Process Technology of Jilin Province, and the Project 985 Advanced Discipline Innovation Platform for Materials Science and Engineering at Jilin University. The first-level discipline “Materials Science and Engineering” of CMSE is composed of 3 second-level disciplines, including National Key Discipline “Materials Processing Engineering,” National Cultivated Key Discipline “Materials Science”, the Key Discipline of Jilin Province “Materials Physics and Chemistry.”
