The First Hospital of Jilin University

 

The First Hospital of Jilin University (hereinafter referred to as Hospital) was built in 1949, it is a grade A tertiary hospital which integrates medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, disease prevention, health care and rehabilitation. The Hospital was originally under the name of The First Military Medical University of PLA. Then it was successively renamed as The Internal Medicine College of Changchun Medicine University, The First Clinical College of Jilin Medical University and The First Clinical College of Norman Bethune College of Medicine. In 2000, the Norman Bethune University of Medical Science was merged with Jilin University, the name of The First Hospital of Jilin University was then adopted.

 

In 2019, among the 19 China’s best clinical disciplines assessment ranking released by the National Medical Data Center, 11 specialities from the Hospital were ranked top 15, comprehensively ranked 5th in the country. In 2020, the Hospital was ranked 45th in China’s Hospital Ranking released by Fudan University. Among the nationwide 1,325 grade A tertiary hospitals on China’s hospital ranking in terms of the science and technological influence, the Hospital was ranked 31st, which was also the 2nd in the three provinces in Northeast China and the 1st in Jilin Province. Among the 26 disciplines ranking in terms of the regional assessment of hospital’s scientific and technological influence, 22 disciplines of the Hospital were top the list in Jilin Province. In the comprehensive ranking of the best employers of China’s medical institutions released by Dingxiangyuan medical website in recent years, the Hospital were among the top 10 in China. In May 2018, according to the ranking of 2017 China’s best employers of public hospitals jointly released by Dingxiangyuan and McKinsey & Company, The First Hospital of Jilin University was top ranked. In 2018, the Hospital obtained the award of the best Hospital Management Team of China and the superior award of the China Hospital Quality Management Practice. The Hospital’s overall score of the doctor-patient mutual satisfaction was top ranked in the third-party evaluation ranking from the national improvement of health services. In 2020, the Hospital won the title of National Advanced Collective for Combating COVID-19 and the title of National Advanced Primary Organization of CPC. Secretary Guoyue LYU was awarded the title of National Advanced Individual for Combating COVID-19 and the title of National Outstanding Member of CPC.

 

The Hospital has two districts with a total construction area of 549,500 square meters and more than 10,000 employees. In 2020, the annual number of patients visited outpatient and emergency departments was over 3.1 million, nearly 300,000 patients were discharged and 189,000 operations were performed. In 2009, the Hospital built its own medical treatment combination, now it has been developed into a medical service cooperation network with 107 member units throughout Jilin Province.

 

The Hospital has 1 state-level key discipline, 17 state key clinical specialty construction projects, 68 clinical departments, 5 outpatient departments, 12 medical technological and auxiliary departments, 92 operating rooms, 1 translational medical research institute, 1 genetic testing center, 1 physical examination center, 1 international health care promotion center, phase I clinical drug trial wards, day-care units, etc. Meanwhile, the Hospital also has 1 national teacher training center, 1 national-local joint engineering laboratory, 1 key laboratory of the Ministry of Education, 9 key laboratories of Jilin Province, 5 clinical research centers of Jilin Province and 9 key disciplines of Jilin Province. In 2011, the Hospital was approved to be the first level clinical medicine doctor station. The Journal of Apoplexy and Nervous Diseases and the Journal of Clinical Hepatology which are sponsored by the Hospital have been rated as national core journals.

 

The Hospital actively promote the multi-disciplinary treatment and day surgery, steadily carries out the work of donation after citizen’s death and DCD liver, kidney, heart and lung transplantation, the total amount of organ donation and transplantation ranks the first in the three provinces in Northeast China and the top 10 in China. In 2017, the Hospital obtained the Diagnosis and Treatment Capacity Improvement of Difficult and Complicated Disease Project which was approved by the National Health Commission and the National Development and Reform Commission, the project funding was 150 million RMB. The Hospital continuously improves the critical disease diagnosis and treatment ability, builds the emergency independent area, the chest pain center green channel, the stroke center green channel and 96608 emergency trauma platform. The hospital will deepen internet + health medical service, build intelligent hospital and promote remote medical consultation work.

 

Among the medical staff of the Hospital, there are 550 staff own senior professional titles and 599 staff own vice senior professional titles. The Hospital has 148 doctoral supervisors and 641 master supervisors, 6 double employed academicians, 5 international high-level experts, 1 national outstanding teacher, 2 of the medical staffs are funded by the Outstanding Youth Science Foundation, 4 distinguished professors with the title of “Changbai Mountain” scholar, 6 distinguished professors with the title of “Tang Aoqing”, 21 provincial and ministerial level outstanding mid-aged experts, 37 professors who have obtained special government allowances of the State Council, 1062 senior professional technicians, 47 staff serve as the committee member or higher position of the Chinese Medical Association, 28 staff serve as the committee chairman of Jilin Provincial Medical Association.

 

In the recent five years, the Hospital has obtained 1 second prize of the National Natural Science Award, 1 second prize of the National Scientific and Technological Progress Award, 2 first prizes of the Science Research Famous Achievement Award in Higher Institution, 30 prizes of the provincial and ministerial level scientific research award, undertaken 1,397 provincial & ministerial level and higher level research projects, among which there are 289 state level projects. Meanwhile, the Hospital has published 7,432 academic papers, which includes 2,881 SCI papers separately published 542 SCI papers in 2017, 638 SCI papers in 2018 and 755 SCI papers in 2019. According to the statistics released by the National Natural Science Foundation of China in 2019, 61 projects from the Hospital had been approved by the NNSFC, which was top ranked in Jilin University for five consecutive years. The Hospital has undertaken 2 projects from “Thirteenth Five-year Plan” National Key Research and Development Program, 4 projects from "973 Programs”, 2 projects funded by the Outstanding Youth Science Foundation of the NNSFC. In 2019, the Hospital was approved by the Ministry of Education to build the key laboratory of organ reconstruction and transplantation. In 2013, the Hospital was approved by the National Development and Reform Commission to build the national-local joint engineering laboratory of animal models for human diseases. In 2014, the Hospital was approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology to build the international joint research center for epigenetic medicine and animal models of human diseases.
