The Discipline Innovation and Introducing Talents of Molecular Engineering of Functional Porous Material is selected into the “Programme of Introducing Talents of Discipline to Universities” (“111 Plan”) in 2017, according to the evaluation results released by Ministry of Education and State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs. Applied by Academician Yu Jihong from the State Key Laboratory of Inorganic Synthesis and Preparative Chemistry Jilin University, “the Discipline Innovation and Introducing Talents of Molecular Engineering of Functional Porous Material” is assessed as a project of distinction, and approved to implement exempt from defense. It is the sixth base of innovation and introduction of intelligence of higher education institutions approved in Jilin University.
The Discipline Innovation and Introducing Talents of Molecular Engineering of Functional Porous Material of Jilin University will introduce two scholars from abroad (Prof. Avelino Corma, foreign member of National Academy of Engineering of the United States and member of the Royal Society of the United Kingdom; Prof. Daniel G. Nocera, member of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences) and 17 backbone researchers from world top-100 universities including Harvard University, MIT, Northwestern University, University of California Berkeley, University of California Los Angeles, University of Michigan, University College London, University of St. Andrews and Universiteit Utrecht, and internationally reputed research institutions such as Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
Guided by theories of molecular engineering, the Base will focus on the core problems of rational design and synthesis of functional porous materials, and conduct research on molecular sieve, mesoporous and functional porous materials, e.g. MOFs/COFs. The Base is committed to exploring new theories, new methods and new techniques of design and synthesis of functional porous materials, aiming to make innovative breakthrough in this field, and creating a batch of functional porous materials with excellent performance of catalysis and absorptive separation in the areas of petrochemical catalysis, natural gas conversion, transformation of renewable energy, storage of hydrogen and natural gas, gas separation, transport of active biogas, etc., in order to underpin the high-efficient utilization of energy, development of new energy and environment management.
The “111 Plan” is designed to push forward the construction of world-class universities and world-class higher education institutions in China, which was jointly launched in 2006 by Ministry of Education and State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs. Targeting at cutting-edge academic development worldwide, based on national key subjects, the project has established a high-standard research team by introducing and assembling more than 1,000 talents from competitive disciplines of world top-100 universities and research institutions, and aims at setting up around 100 world-class bases of innovation and introduction of intelligence.
