Jilin University-Macquarie University-Justus Liebig University Giessen Week at Jilin University Successfully held

Jilin University-Macquarie University-Justus Liebig University Giessen Week at Jilin University was held in Jilin University from the 20th to the 23th of November. A team of 12 delegates led by Joybrato Mukherjee, President of Justus Liebig University Giessen and a delegation of six representatives led by Tim Beresford, Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Macquarie University visited Jilin University simultaneously. Li Yuanyuan, President of Jilin University, Tim Beresford and Joybrato Mukherjee on behalf of Jilin University, Macquarie University and Justus Liebig University Giessen respectively, signed “the Cooperation Agreement between Jilin University of China and Justus Liebig University Giessen of Germany” and “Memorandum of Understanding between Jilin University, China, Macquarie University, Australia and Justus Liebig University Giessen, Germany”.

Li Yuanyuan, President of Jilin University attended the signing ceremony and delivered a speech. The ceremony was chaired by Chen Gang, Executive Vice President of Jilin University. Senior Officers from the Office of President, Office of Publicity, Office of Development and Planning, Graduate School, Office of Undergraduate Education, Office of Science and Technology, Office of Social Sciences, Office of Human Resources and Social Security, Office of Talent Management, Office of Global Engagement, College of Foreign Languages, School of Foreign Language Education, School of Life Sciences and College of Veterinary Medicine of Jilin University also attended the ceremony.

Li Yuanyuan, President of Jilin University, first extended a warm welcome to the delegations from Macquarie University and from Justus Liebig University Giessen coming from afar, then he reviewed the cooperation history of Jilin University with Macquarie University and Justus Liebig University Giessen. He said that Jilin University, as the largest key comprehensive research university in terms of campus size and students enrolment directly under direct jurisdiction of Ministry of Education in China, has a tradition of valuing the cooperation with world renowned universities. The signing ceremony established a vital platform for three universities to embrace the emerging opportunities of the time and face the challenges of international competition. He proposed that three parties were expected to share quality education resources on the basis of the Memorandum of Understanding and expand the scale of student exchange, conduct cooperation in substantial scientific research, carry on research in emerging interdisciplinary fields of study, such as setting up joint colleges on marine science, aerospace technology and big data to compete for the support of external policies and funding resources together, to further improve the education capabilities of three universities, jointly conduct cutting-edge scientific research and tackle the issues faced by mankind together. Jilin University is willing to cooperate with the other two universities in contributing to world peace and development.

 

Joybrato MukherjeePresident of Justus Liebig University Giessen, pointed out in his speech that despite the limited cooperation history between Justus Liebig University Giessen and Jilin University, it developed so rapidly that Jilin University is now regarded as an important strategic partner in China. He was convinced that based on the sound basis of cooperation among Jilin University, Macquarie University and Justus Liebig University Giessen, the partnership of three parties will contribute greatly to the joint development in the context of globalization.

Tim Beresford, Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Macquarie University, said in his speech that Macquarie University has maintained a long-term cooperative partnership with Jilin University and Justus Liebig University Giessen respectively. There is a solid basis and a promising future of the cooperation. Based on each one’s own disciplinary advantages, three parties should offer more powerful support for faculties and students through the trilateral cooperative platform for the purpose of improving international competitive edge together.

During the Exchange Week, the three parties also held a work meeting to discuss the details of pragmatic cooperation during which Chen Gang, Executive Vice President of Jilin University delivered a speech.

Joybrato Mukherjee and Tim Beresford delivered excellent academic lectures for the faculty members and students of the College of Foreign Languages, School of Foreign Language Education and School of Life Sciences of Jilin University respectively. Moreover, the delegations of two universities also visited the College of Veterinary Medicine, College of Physics, College of Environment and Resources, College of Life Sciences of Jilin University and engaged in in-depth discussions with faculty members and students in Jilin University.

Jilin University- Macquarie University- Justus Liebig University Giessen Week will become a new starting point for the pragmatic cooperation of three universities. The Strategic Cooperative Framework of Jilin University-Macquarie University-Justus Liebig University Giessen will be an important opportunity for the three universities to respond to the challenges emerged from globalization and in the information era. The signing of “Memorandum of Understanding between Jilin University, China, Macquarie University, Australia and Justus Liebig University Giessen, Germany” will promote the win-win cooperation of the three universities and promote the social development and scientific progress drawing from their respective disciplinary edges.
