On 18th, Nov.2016, the 3-person delegation led by Prof. David Cebon, from Department of Engineering, University of Cambridge, U.K. and Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, U.K., visited Jilin University at the invitation of Prof. Chen Hong, Director of State Key Laboratory of Automotive Simulation and Control. Prof. Li Yuanyuan, President of Jilin University, received Prof. Cebon at Dongyong building. Prof. Shou Yongyi, Assistant Dean of School of Management, Director of Zhejiang University MBA Program Office and Professor of Department of Service Science and Operations Management, Zhejiang University, and Dr. Na Xiaoxiang, Research Associate of Department of Engineering, University of Cambridge, U.K., were in the delegation. President Li Yuanyuan welcomed Prof. Cebon’s delegation and pointed out that it is opportune for in-depth scientific research collaborations between Jilin University and the University of Cambridge in the context of flourishing cultural exchanges between China and U.K. and the collaboration is in line with the strategic needs of both countries and both universities. He also appreciated the efforts made by Prof. Cebon, Prof. Chen Hong and Prof. Shou Yongyi to launch the Smart Freight Vehicle and Green Logistics Innovation Centre. He proposed expectations to elevate the innovative production-study-research structure of both countries to a higher level.
Prof. Cebon elaborated the basic ideals, framework and operation mode of the Centre for Sustainable Road Freight launched by him in the U.K. to President Li Yuanyuan and envisioned the future development for both centers co-founded by China and the U.K., adhering to the same ideals and shouldering the common mission. Prof. Chen Hong, Director of the State Key Laboratory of Automotive Simulation and Control, reported to President Li Yuanyuan on the relevant cooperation progress.
President Li Yuanyuan recognized the necessity for establishing the Center, and expressed his full support to its development. He also proposed his constructive opinions on its structure. “A journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step,” President Li Yuanyuan believed, “such cooperation with a good beginning and clear outlines and plans will undoubtedly be an initiative with international significance”.
Staff from Office of Science and Technology, Office of Global Engagement, College of Automotive Engineering, State Key Laboratory of Automotive Simulation and Control, College of Communication Engineering, School of Transportation, and College of Computer Science and Technology of Jilin University also attended the reception.
Prof. David Cebon is the Director of the Centre for Sustainable Road Freight and the Cambridge Vehicle Dynamics Consortium. His research covers the heavy vehicle dynamics and economy of heavy vehicle fuel consumption, road and bridge response and damage caused by heavy vehicles, and the micromechanics of materials aspects of road transport engineering. He has authored or co-authored more than 150 papers and 3 monographs on relevant areas.
