On November 3rd, Prof. Yang Zhenbin, Chairman of the University Council, Jilin University, attended the Reception Celebrating the 5th Anniversary of the Establishment of the ASEAN-China Centre in Beijing. Sun Guoxiang, Special Envoy of Asian Affairs of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of People’s Republic of China, Vandy Boudthasavong, Ambassador of Lao People’s Democratic Republic to China and Yang Xiuping, Secretary General of ASEAN-China Centre attended the reception and delivered their speeches respectively. About 400 distinguished guests were present at the reception including envoys from ASEAN countries, representatives from United Nations Development Program, International Department of Central Committee of CPC, the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, SunWah Group, Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs, China Public Diplomacy Association and guests from relevant ministries and departments, business and academic communities, social and media circles.
During the reception, Yang Zhenbin, Chairman of the University Council, Jilin University, and Yang Xiuping, Secretary General of ASEAN-China Centre, envoys and representatives from ASEAN countries and friends from China Education Association for International Exchange communicated and exchanged ideas about internationalization of education and future cooperation intentions.
The ASEAN-China Center was established in 2011 in Bali of Indonesia. It is an intergovernmental organization co-founded by China and other ASEAN countries and its headquarters is located in Beijing. The Center aims at promoting pragmatic cooperation in five major fields including trade, investment, education, culture and tourism. Jilin University and the ASEAN-China Center have maintained close cooperative relationship. In June 2016, ASEAN-China Forum of Youth and Humanities co-organized by ASEAN-China Center, Jilin University and Education Department of Embassy of Malaysia in China was held successfully in Jilin University. This forum is one of the events of China-ASEAN Education Exchange Year and the first large-scale event organized by China-ASEAN Center in Northeast of China. 150 exchange students from ASEAN countries and students from Jilin University participated in the forum. In 2015, Jilin University was approved to be one of the second batches of universities that are qualified to set up ASEAN educational training base in China, which is called China-ASEAN Education and Training Center.
