The 2nd Session of the Council of Jilin University-Hanyang University Confucius Institute is held

On October 27, the second session of the Council of the Confucius Institute of Jilin University-Hanyang University of Korea was held in Jilin University. Members of the Council from Hanyang University, including the Young Moo Lee, President, Ki-jeong Lee, Vice President for International Affairs, Seo Weon nam, Dean of International Language Institute and Director of Confucius Institute, attended the meeting. Members of the council from Jilin University, including the Li Yuanyuan, President, Chen Gang, Executive Vice President, Liu Debin, Associate Vice President and Dean of School of International and Public Affairs all attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Executive Vice President Chen Gang.

Li Yuanyuan extended a warm welcome to the Korean delegation led by Young Moo Lee and recognized the contribution of the Confucius Institute at Hanyang University over the past year. He pointed out that Jilin University has attached great importance to the strategic cooperation with Hanyang University and would fully support the growth of the Confucius Institute at Hanyang University. Through the joint efforts of the two universities, the Confucius Institute will make further progress. Relying on this platform, cooperation between the two schools will be broader and deeper. President Young Moo Lee thanked Jilin University for its efforts to promote the development of the Confucius Institute, indicating that the Confucius Institute at Hanyang University will continue to explore ways to further promote Chinese language education within the university. He hoped that, through Confucius Institute, more Koreans will learn Chinese language, better understand Chinese culture, and contribute to the exchanges and cooperation between the two countries.

Then, the Korean Director of the Confucius Institute, Seo Weon nam reported on the work of the Institute in 2016, the implementation of the budget and final accounts, and the development plan of the Institute in 2017. The Meeting also discussed the change of the Korean members of Council and the selection of the Chinese director. Members of the Council approved the matter by unanimous vote. During free discussion, Liu Debin, Associate Vice President, proposed that the Confucius Institute at Hanyang University, on the basis of the practices in other countries in the last decade, could seek to shape their own characteristics and strengths, and suggested that the Institute conduct a research on the promotion of Chinese language in Korea.

Senior Officers and faculty members from Office of Global Engagement, College of International Education, School of International Chinese Language Education, and School of International and Public Affairs participated the Meeting.

Jilin University and Hanyang University signed the Jilin University - Hanyang University Letter of Intent to build Confucius Institute in May 2015, and the Confucius Institute was unveiled and established in November 2015.
