JLU Delegation’s Visit to Israel Completed in Success

During May 15 to 18, upon the invitation of Prof. Rivka Carmi, president of Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Yang Zhenbin, Chairman of Jilin University Council, led the delegation to Israel and attended the 3rd Global Innovation and Entrepreneurship Conference and International Seminar of China-Israel Innovation and Entrepreneurial Opportunity and Challenge. More than 400 experts and scholars from China, Israel, Netherlands and the UK, government officials and entrepreneurs attended the meetings, which ended in great success.

Yang Zhenbin paid a special visit to Prof. Dan Shechtman, honorary professor of JLU and Nobel prize winner in chemistry of 2011, who was invited to the conference and made the keynote speech. They communicated about JLU’s recent work and progress in innovation and entrepreneurship, and exchanged views about how to improve the international competiveness of JLU, strengthen joint development of talents and introduction of talents, and Yang Zhenbin invited Prof. Dan Shechtman to join the 70th anniversary celebration activities of JLU in this September.


In the morning of May 17, a formal talk was held between BGU and JLU. Prof. Rivka Carmi, president of BGU, Prof, Dan Bloomberg, vice president in charge of research development, Prof. Steve Rosen, vice president in charge of international affairs, dean of faculty of engineering sciences, vice provost, director of international affairs office attended the talk. Both parties concluded work that has been done since the signing of agreement of joint establishment of China-Israel Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center as witnessed by vice prime minister, Liu Yandong and Minister Bennett, especially the full success of this roundtable. Both parties achieved consensus on mutual visits by teachers and students in medicine, agriculture and information science, cooperation in scientific research, joint training program and other projects. Yang Zhenbin formally invited Prof. Rivka Carmi to attend the celebration activities of JLU for its 70th anniversary.


In the afternoon of May 17, the delegation was invited to visit Peres Center for Peace and held brief talks with Nobel Peace Prize winner and former president of Israel, Shimon Peres. Mr. Peres kindly asked about the ongoing 3rd Innovation and Entrepreneurship Conference, and Yang Zhenbin gave a short introduction of the success of the conference and China’s reports about this conference.


China’s ambassador to Israel, Zhan Yongxin met the delegation at his residence and introduced about the development of China-Israel cooperation and status quo of higher education in Israel. Yang Zhenbin reported to Ambassador Zhan Yongxin about JLU’s cooperation with higher education institutes, technology sector and businesses of Israel in recent years, as well as the progress of the 3rd Innovation and Entrepreneurship Conference, and discussed with Ambassador Zhan Yongxin about how to promote practical cooperation with Israeli universities.


The delegation also visited Gavyam frontier science and technology park located in Beersheba and JVP venture capital partnership company in Jerusalem, and met with Daniel Roth, CEO of China-Israel Communication Center. They talked about the current situation and prospect of facilitating communication between young people of two countries and JLU’s further participation and facilitation of cooperation, greater exchange between students and teachers of two countries and technological cooperation.
