During May 3-5, 2016, Luis Van Morlegan, Director of the International Division and Dean of Confucius Institute on the Argentina side, along with Professor Guido Zack, research fellow from the Political Economic Cross-Discipline Institute visited Jilin University and attended the “Argentina International Grand Forum” hosted by both sides. Associate Vice President Professor Liu Debin met the two representatives. Present at relevant activities were staff from the Office of Global Engagement, School of International and Public Affairs and School of Economics.
On May 3, Professor Liu Debin met the two representatives. They held intensive discussion on building demonstrative Confucius Institute, training and sending faculty volunteers teaching Chinese to foreigners and conducting exchange programs. Both sides agreed to utilize the tool of language to promote education, research and cultural exchange and explore higher-level cooperation projects. Bu Tiejun, Deputy Director of Office of Global Engagement and Bai Bing, Vice Dean of School of International and Public Affairs were also present at the meeting.
On May 5, the “2nd Argentina International Grand Forum”, co-hosted by both sides and organized by the School of Economics of Jilin University, was launched in Dongrong Building. Professor Morlegan and Professor Zack respectively made an academic lecture on “Argentina Human Resources Management” and “Argentina Economy Overview”. The Forum was chaired Professor Li Xiao, Deputy Dean of the School of Economics with participation by Professor Ding Yibing, director of the Department of International Economy and Trade, as well as over 200 graduate students from Jilin University.
In 2009, Jilin University built a Confucius Institute with Buenos Aires University. Since then, it has been gradually forged into a key base for promoting Chinese culture and language in Latin America. It was credited as “Excellent Confucius Institute” by Hanban in 2009 and 2011. In October 2015, Professor Li Xiao and Professor Ding Yibing visited the co-hosted “China Grand Forum” in Buenos Aires University. These regular forums provide a platform for faculty and student mutual visits and research cooperation. They will further promote cooperation between both sides on related areas.
