Delegation of Macquarie University Visited Jilin University

November 25, Barbara Messerle, the Executive Dean (vice president level) of the Faculty of Science, Macquarie University, led a team of three visited Jilin University. Sun Youhong, the Vice President of Jilin University, received the delegation. Persons in charge of College of Electronic Science and Engineering, College of Computer Science and Technology, and Office of Global Engagement also participated in the reception.

Prof. Sun Youhong first expressed warm welcome to Professor Messerle’s delegation, and then reviewed the dialogue they had during the visit of Sakki Pretorius, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) of Macquarie University, to Jilin University in October, 2015. Prof. Sun suggested that, in the future, both parties can deepen research cooperation and explore faculty exchange projects in areas of science, engineering, information technology and other strong disciplines, expand joint post-graduation education program, and promote interdisciplinary cooperation. Professor Messerle expressed her gratitude for Jilin University’s hospitality. She said that her visit aimed to implement the work memorandum signed during the meeting between Prof. Sun Youhong and Prof. Pretorius. The Faculty of Science of Macquarie University was willing to further conduct all-dimensional, high-level, and in-depth cooperation with related colleges of Jilin University in related areas, so as to promote the project of joint granting long-term and short-term tenures for teachers.


Professor Messerle’s delegation held discussion with Sun Hongbo, the Dean of College of Electronic Science and Engineering, Wei Xiaohui, the Dean of College of Computer Science and Technology, and Bu Tiejun, the Deputy Director of Office of Global Engagement, on a series of issues of the joint teacher employment program, such as the duration of the tenure, the form of employment, etc. They also held direct communication and exchanges with young teachers from related colleges.


During the visit, the delegation also visited the national key joint laboratory of integrated optoelectronics of Jilin University. Nicole Brigg, the Director of International Office of Macquarie University, and Stephen Fan, the Associate Director of China Engagement, joined the delegation to visit Jilin University.
