Confucius China Studies Program (2020 @ Jilin University)


Program Background

In order to foster deeper understanding on China and the Chinese culture among young generations from around the world, to enable the prosperous development of China studies, to promote the sustainable development of Confucius Institutes, and to enhance the friendship between Chinese people and peoples of other countries, the Confucius Institute Headquarters launched the "Confucius China Studies Program" in 2012.

Jilin University was designated by the Confucius Institute headquarters as one of the program partners to host the Program fellows from all over the world .


Fellowship Categories

IPh.D. Candidates Co-supervision Fellowship, is to support international doctoral students (Ph.D. candidates) registered with foreign universities to engage in co-supervision by supervisors both from host and home institutions in China.

Duration: From 6 months to 2 years.

 

IIPh.D. Degree Fellowship, is to support international students to pursue full-time Ph.D. degrees in humanities and social sciences at universities in China.

Duration: From 3 to 4 years.


Funding

The funding for the fellowships are mainly as follows:

• Lodging and living stipend;

• Research fund;

• Round-trip international airfare (Economy class);

• Tuition;

• Other support provided by Confucius Institute Headquarters through the the host Chinese university;

• Expenses for life and medical insurances in China;

• Group activities and cultural experience;

• Expenses for the home institution supervisor’s visit and/or research in Chinafor Ph.D. Candidates Co-supervision Fellowship Program Only


Eligibility

• Healthy Non-Chinese citizen;

• HSK test score of level 3 is required for Ph.D Candidates Co-supervision Fellowship Program, and priority is given to applicants with higher level of proficiency in Chinese under same conditions;

• HSK test score of level 5 is required for Ph.D Degree Fellowship Program, and priority is given to applicants with higher level of proficiency in Chinese under same conditions;

• Chinese Government Scholarship beneficiaries are not eligible to apply for this Program.


Application Materials

IFor Ph.D. Candidates Co-supervision Fellowship, the following documents are needed. 

• Certificate for current enrolment in Ph.D. Degree program;

• Two letters of recommendation from scholars in the related field;

• HSK transcript;

• Abstract of master’s degree thesis or other academic publications;

• Personal statement and a research plan for the study in China;

• Priority is given to the applicants who obtain a letter of recommendation from Confucius Institutes.


IIFor Ph.D. Degree Fellowship, the following documents are needed.

• Notarized transcripts and degree certificates during undergraduate and graduate studies, and translated copies of all the above documents in Chinese;

• Two letters of recommendation from scholars in the related field;

• HSK certificate;

•Abstract of master’s degree thesis and other academic publications; A doctoral research statement;

• A research plan for Ph. D. Degree program in China;

• Priority is given to the applicants who obtain a letter of recommendation from Confucius Institutes.


Deadline for Application

Applicants shall submit the online application at ccsp.chinese.cn, with the host institution as Jilin University and then post the application forms and other supporting documents to the Confucius Institute Headquarters by March 20th (as of Beijing time).

Screening Process

I. Jilin University will review the applications.

II. The Confucius China Studies Program Screening Committee will conduct examination and interview for the qualified applicants confirmed by Jilin University.
